See below for minutes from the 2/16/06 Local Motives meeting:

Boys and Girls Club:  Local Motives will be helping the club with painting and/or other projects in March.  A group of 5 could probably handle the paint job in a few hours.  Saturdays are preferred so check your calendars and let me know your order of preference of the 4, 11, 18 and 25.  Iíll set up a day based on the results.  Also remember, the Club can always use tutors and other help with the kids and their activities.

City Park Flower Garden:  Our flower garden will need some work, likely to be done in late March.  If you have any ideas for new plants let me know or bring them to the next meeting.

Adopt-a-Highway:  I have renewed our contract for another year.  Our next clean-up is tentatively scheduled for April 1.  Please let me know if you can or can not participate.  We need to have at least 5 people who can help so the work can be done quickly.

Habitat for Humanity:  The general consensus seems to be that we should wait until the next house construction begins, maybe sometime this summer.

MOV Regional Science Fair:  The science fair will be April 7-8 at WVUP and will need help before and during the event.

Relay for Life:  The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is scheduled for May 19 and 20.  Joyce Lin will be our team captain this year.  The Relay is an opportunity to raise money for cancer research while enjoying a fun atmosphere at the Parkersburg City Park.

For those who are not aware, the Parkersburg Relay is one of the largest Relay for Life events for cities our size.  I think it is second only to Parkersburg Homecoming in terms of community attendance and support.  Past activities (which last throughout the event) have been basketball games, karaoke, and various musicians.  And the Luminaria Ceremony at the pond Friday evening is an especially moving part of Relay.

If you want more information about Relay visit the website at

Next meeting:  The next meeting will be March 2, at our City Park flower garden.  Please let me know whether or not you can attend.
