hi all! attention DuPonters! i need your reply! many of you may know that aluminum cans used on site are no longer recycled, sending tons of extra waste to landfills, and wasting the money that could be earned by recycling them ($0.42/lb!!!). Local Motives is considering collecting these cans, and using the money for things like secret santa shopping next year, buying items for various area shelters, donations to the salvation army or habitat for humanity, advertising our group, and anything else we might come up with - we can set rules later. Will you help? details will be worked out, but we'd start small, collecting cans in 1 BTO (teflon?) once every week or two. this is an excellent opportunity, but only if we get people to help out. right now all those cans are just a waste! People working outside of dupont can consider doing this at their own workplace also, on whatever schedule you can afford. please! let me know if you're interested by monday at the latest!!!

on Monday, January 17 from 9 am - 2 pm the Boys and Girls Club in Parkersburg will be celebrating Martin Luther King Day with an educational event for kids 7-18 yrs old. Simultaneously, there will be a mentoring workshop for adults interested in working with younger kids. Volunteers would be assisting with registration, playing roles in a scavenger hunt, serving lunch, helping to make valentines for a local senior center, and chaperoning in general. please let me know if you can attend by Wednesday, January 12.

Soup's On! We'll be slinging hash at the Parkersburg Salvation Army on January 26 and 27. We'll need 2-3 volunteers per night, to be there from 4:45 - 6:15 pm serving food and cleaning up afterward. Let me know if you want to help! Brian and Leslie are scheduled for the 26th, scott and i for the 27th.

Finally, a "press release" was sent out to WTAP ch. 5, and The River 102.1 for their community minutes announcing our organization and giving interested people a place to call to join up. not sure when they'll be aired, but keep your eyes and ears open and let us know if you run across one! any other free advertising venues like that would also be great!
